Want to start a wellness culture in your office, but don’t have wellness dollars to spend? Here’s a suggestion, if you’re ordering food for meetings, that’s a good place to start incorporating wellness into your day-to-day life at work.
Here are a few ideas to help you get started:
Evaluate menus.
Look at your go-to vendors. Are there healthy menu items to choose from? If there are – make it a policy to only order healthy. If there aren’t (say lunch is always the deep dish pizza down the street), find other restaurants or deli’s in the area that do serve up healthy meals.
Remember that there needs to be substance.
Combine whole grain foods and ‘good’ carbs, such as whole grain crackers, with heart-healthy high protein foods, like low-fat cheese, to lessen a post sugar energy crash.
Exchange sugary desserts for healthy ones.
Instead of cookies for dessert, opt for fruit. If you can’t convince people that fruit is really a dessert, serve thin slices of angel food cake topped with lots of strawberries; maybe they won’t notice.
Mind the drinks.
Always include low calorie drinks like water, soda water or diet drinks.
